The Visual History of Type

This book introduces major typefaces produced since the invention of letterpress printing (1454–2015) through printed materials using the respective typefaces. Unlike existing sources that explain typefaces, it arranges them chronologically rather than by style, distinguishing them from books that simply introduce typefaces. The footnotes, which list the font names and dates, provide a sense of the typographical trends over time, a key strength. The sheer volume of information, encompassing over 300 items in 672 pages, is impressive. Furthermore, the recently published book's clean, large format format offers a distinct advantage. The price was also reasonable for the information. And this book is beautiful.

I think the moment when you truly feel "a book is beautiful" is when you discover that the book itself is self-effacing and devoted to information. The most beautiful book I chose in 2017.
