Book of Stars

This book presents constellations in 3D. It uses 3D glasses (with red and blue lenses) to create a sense of depth by utilizing the out-of-focus effect. While this method is quite common these days, this book was published in the mid-1980s, making it perhaps one of the earliest versions of a 3D book. What's unique about this book isn't simply its 3D effect; it also depicts star distances based on the depth of field (0-50 light-years, 51-100 light-years, 101-200 light-years, etc.).

Kohei Sugiura's designs are profoundly extravagant, yet always experimental. While I sometimes find myself drawn to his expressiveness, I find myself nodding along to his profound thought process once I grasp the meaning.

I wasn't really interested in constellations, but this is one of those books that I'm attached to as a good design resource.
