Dictionary of the History of Books and Printing

I came across this book while preparing for my master's thesis. It delves deeply into the story of modern printing, surrounding the Ming font, and how Western missionaries intervened in modern printing technology in East Asia. The West risked its life to create Eastern typefaces to spread its ideology (religion), China tried to resist this, and Japan showed a keen interest in the new technology... Even within East Asia, the introduction of modern typefaces varied. The typefaces discussed in this material do not encompass the legibility and aesthetic values we consider in typography today. While not explicitly mentioned, the weighty formula "typeface/fontface = ideology" drives the content.

It is a resource that provides valuable information even through images alone, as it contains a wealth of printed materials that played an important role in the history of modern printing in East Asia.
