ecological psychology
Various materials on ecological psychology. How do humans and animals perceive and respond to their environment, and how these experiences shape their evolution? Ecological psychology (affordance) was the largest required course during my master's degree program, and at the time, I was skeptical about how understanding this kind of thinking could directly relate to design. Come to think of it, I only focused on how to create compelling designs in the Visual Communication Design department, never considering how people perceive visual elements and absorb them as information. The principles and structures of perceiving light and color, sensing texture, recognizing three-dimensionality, and spatial perception. Is this visual cognition innate or acquired through learning? Few people understand and design the concept of how humans perceive the environment.
This class required me to understand the material and then present it, so it was quite challenging for international students. Thanks to this, I spent a year tackling James Jerome Gibson's books, and my reading comprehension improved.
