Humans and Letters
This book is a museum of world writing. It was created by examining the precious heritage held in museums around the world. The large-format illustrations go beyond simply introducing the forms of letters, presenting the artifacts themselves. The photography-driven presentation, which covers everything from ancient script to the formation of the alphabet, Chinese character culture, printing, and typography, is also superbly structured.
I remember using a scanned version of this book during my undergraduate years, only to be harshly scolded by the person in charge. Poor student... I was so scared... It was just a class project...
